A rather gushy article from the Ottawa Citizen has cited Lisa MacLeod as a top contender for high Ministerial office if Tim Hudak becomes Premier. I shudder at the thought. I truly do. Lisa MacLeod is the most annoying MPP in Ontario.
In the past she has:
Made the dumbest defence of John Tory’s leadership (He should be leader because he gets up early); demanded that taxpayers pay for her children; called for the Ontario Parliament to work only half days; said that the government should be responsible for the raising of our children (well basically said that anyway); and demonstrated a complete lack of understanding of economics.
The Ottawa Citizen said that she is fiery and combative. Try small minded and annoying. She is exactly the sort of person we do not want in government. And really I doubt that she is destined for senior office. I assume Tim Hudak has more sense than that.

I commend your optimism about Hudak. Unfortunately, I don't share that assessment. Hudak is inherently dangerous for Ontario, and his silence on his position regarding the HST makes McGuinty's flip flops look like schoolyard fun.
not going to happen
Wow, what's with your over-the-top attacks on MacLeod? She is one of the hardest working and most respected members at Queen's Park. Are you scared of her ideas or just scared of a strong woman?
Wow Mike, yeah I'm a sexist. That is exactly why I don't like her. I hate hard working women. I especially hate hard working women who only wants to work half days.
Or is it that I'm scared of her ideas? Scared of her idea that the government should be doing more to raise our children? Hmm...that may be it actually.
Help for working mothers, is that really the cause you are fighting against?
It's easy to sit there and complain, much harder to actually go out in the world and do something.
Help for X is that really the cause you are fighting against?
The answer to this is usually no, that is not the cause I'm fighting against. My mom works, and I think she's amazing.
No my complaint is in general that people should not be forced to pay for other people's decisions. Specifically my complaint is that we should not be forced to pay for Lisa MacLeod's decisions.
If you want to have a child you have to make sacrifices for that joy. If you want to be an elected officially, usually that also requires sacrifices. Any individual has to make that sort of decision, find the balance that most suits them. Decide for themself what sacrifice is least painful.
The rest of us should not be made to make the sacrifice for them.
Hugh, these hit jobs on Macleod need to stop. You are completely twisting her words and seemingly out to slander her at any cost. She never said that the "government should be responsible for the raising of our children", she said more could be done to stop teen smoking. You make quite a leap in this criticism, as you do in others. If you disagree with Ms. MacLeod, argue against her using facts, not made up garbage. I look forward to a more well thought out and well reasoned analysis of Ms. MacLeod in entry VIII.
Anon,
The context of her words are significant. Dalton McGuinty said that parents should take responsibility to educate their children and keep them from smoking at too young of an age. Ms. Macleod wanted to abdicate that responsibility back to the government. So no I don't think I am twisting her words. At worse I am merely exagerating. Even then I don't think I'm exagerating too badly.
The implication of her words is that the role of the government is to act as the sheppard for the activity of the young. There is no other way to interpret what she said. It may be that she didn't think through the full meaning of her words, thinking that it was an easy issue. After all who wouldn't support less teen smoking? But that kind of thinking reveals nothing but a blind attack on the government for its supposed inaction and a lack of personal depth.
I will say that she is not always wrong. She was good on the issue of the HRC. (if you go to the label you will see my post on that)
I don't know what you are getting all worked up about, McGuinty will win a third term. Tim is missing in action.
