John Laforet is a Liberal Party activist that I met when I attended the University of Toronto. I found him to be a well meaning liberal without an overly partisan attitude. He demonstrates this in a video posted by United and Strong:

I have been told that he is no longer a member of the Liberal Party, but he was active in the Liberal Party a couple of years ago when I knew him.

Clarification: John is no longer an Ontario Liberal Party member (and for valid reasons, on his part).
I think if this is the best the LCSB could come up with...well, why were they there? There's a fine line between constructive opposition watch and an attack-dog mentality/culture. That being said, it's acceptable to have politicians from different parties observing and commenting on the process.
Congrats on your good work covering Ontario politics. I value the depth and thoughffulness you are bringing to the subject.
